The three-day report
At 12h30 on Sunday, 195 afternoon seats went on the board for that same afternoon. 131 were taken in the first minute, and the last went at 12:31:44, one minute and forty-four seconds after release. Across the three days Volkswagen offered 1,020 seats by the close, booked 981, and delivered 964 drives to 928 people. Every figure here comes from the booking record.
At 12h30 on Sunday, 195 seats went on the board. At 12h31, 64 were left.
Sunday released its three afternoon sessions, 14h45, 16h10 and 18h00, at 12h30 on the day, at 65 seats each. 131 seats were taken in the first minute. The last of the 195 went at 12:31:44, one minute and forty-four seconds after release.
The 07h45 release, on the same two-minute ruler
Saturday ran the same release a day earlier with 135 seats, three sessions of 45. 85 went in the first minute, and the last went at 12:31:37. That is 1 min 37.
Underneath the two windows sit six sessions. Each is timed from its release to the moment the last seat on its board was taken. On that measure Sunday 14h45 filled all 65 seats in 31 seconds, the quickest Volkswagen session of the three days. Saturday 14h45 also filled its 45 in 31 seconds. The 07h45 morning sessions sit on the same scale for comparison.
Saturday’s afternoon sessions are timed against the 45 seats on their board at release. Friday had no timed release and is not on the list.
The morning release moved at a different speed. Saturday’s 135 morning seats took 50 min 50, at 8, 8, 10, 11 and 5 bookings a minute over the first five minutes. Sunday put 195 up at 07h45 and filled them in 27 min 08, at 19, 28, 26, 13 and 17. On Sunday the earliest session filled last: 10h45 in 8 min 12, 12h30 in 11 min 49, 08h30 in 27 min 08. All 330 morning seats were taken.
Sunday’s afternoon ran with no queue behind it. This release shows how fast 195 seats went. It does not show how many more people wanted one.

Saturday’s afternoon went on the board at 12h30 at 45 seats a session, 135 in all, and was gone in 1 min 37. The three queues behind it, 15 places each, were full by 12:31:43. The 14h45 queue took its 15 names in two seconds. That is 180 recorded requests in 103 seconds. After that the record has nowhere left to count: every seat and every queue place was taken.
At 13h06 the three sessions were raised from 45 to 75 seats, 90 more in all. The 45 guests waiting in the queues were given the new seats: 15 were confirmed at once, and 30 were held for the guest to claim, 28 of whom were confirmed together at 15:57:50. The other 45 seats were booked between 13:08:30 and 13:29:58, and the sessions reached 75 at 13:13:21, 13:18:45 and 13:29:58. Then the queues built again: 49 more names, the last at 15:54:48. Saturday’s six sessions carried 270 seats before 13h06 and closed with 360, 359 of them booked.
One caveat, and it is ours to raise. Guests moved up from a queue did not arrive as reliably as guests who booked a seat outright. Of the 48 who kept the seat they were given, 17 did not drive. That is 35.4%, against 16.4% for guests who booked directly. Nine of Saturday 18h00’s 20 no-shows were guests moved up from its queue, and 12 of the 17 were among the 28 whose seat was held for a claim until 15:57:50. The record does not say why they stayed away. It does say which seats stood empty.
The board carried 1,020 seats at close. The stand scanned in 964 drives.
Friday put 227 drives through 270 seats, Saturday 354 through 360 and Sunday 383 through 390. Across the three days that is 94.5% of the seats on the board.
Two things set the gap. First, 39 seats were empty at close, and 36 of them were in a single Friday session (see 05). Second, 170 booked seats were never scanned in. That is 17.3% of the 981 booked: 38 on Friday (16.4%), 53 on Saturday (14.8%) and 79 on Sunday (20.3%). These are counted in bookings, not people.
The door is why the days still came close. 150 walk-ups were registered at the stand and put into cars, and every one of them was scanned in: 31 on Friday, 47 on Saturday, 72 on Sunday. On every day the door came within seven of its no-shows. Three more drives were scanned against bookings that now read cancelled, and in two of them the cancellation was recorded after the guest had been scanned in. In all, 153 of the 964 drives sat outside the seats held at close.
The last session of the day leaked most. The three 18h00 sessions left 59 of their 185 bookings unused. That is 31.9%, against 13.9% across the other fifteen sessions. At Sunday 18h00, the last session of the show, 25 of 65 booked guests did not arrive. The door put 40 walk-ups into the three 18h00 sessions and was still short.
Two caveats, and we would rather raise them than have them raised. First, the record shows when each door guest was registered, not which empty seat they took. So read 150 against 170 as capacity added at the door, not a seat-for-seat recovery. Second, a guest is scanned on arrival at the stand, not at the car, and 203 of the 964 scans came more than an hour before the session they belong to. Walk-ups were also registered against a session on top of the booked guests scanned in for it, and the record does not show which car either one took. That is why six sessions in the table read above their seat count. The day-level figures are the ones to rely on.
Nine of the twelve Friday and Saturday sessions had a queue that reached fifteen. Sunday never had one.
211 queue entries were recorded across Friday and Saturday. 50 were moved into a seat, and 31 of those drove. 161 entries were still in a queue when the show closed. They belong to 151 people, and 17 of the entries belong to someone who drove that same day on another booking.
From about 10h09 on Friday each session’s queue held 15 places. That was a ceiling we set ourselves, not one the audience set. Once a queue held 15, demand beyond it went unrecorded, and 206 of the 211 entries sit in the nine queues that reached it. Friday 10h45 and 12h30 had passed 15 before the ceiling came in, at 30 and 22, and took no one after it. Saturday’s afternoon queues read 30, 33 and 31 because each is two queues end to end. The first emptied into seats at 13h06 and the second built up behind it.
From about 16h44 on Saturday the Volkswagen queue was closed, and Sunday ran without one. Every Sunday session filled, and no online demand beyond the 390 seats was counted. What the record does hold is the door, which put 72 walk-ups into cars on Sunday. Sunday’s missing queue is not low demand. It means no queue was kept.
So 211 is a floor, not a measure. Nine queues reached their ceiling and stopped taking names, and a guest who saw a long queue and walked away was never recorded at all. A 2027 capacity figure built on the 161 entries left in a queue would size the activation too small.
Five of Friday’s six sessions were full by 11h08. The first one never filled.
Friday ran 45 seats a session with no timed release. One booking came in at 05:31, and the steady flow started at 07:45:38. From there the board filled in order of the day: 10h45 at 08:42, 12h30 at 08:57, 14h45 at 09:10, 16h10 at 09:34 and 18h00 at 11:08. No seat was booked after 11:08:02.
Friday 08h30 started about forty-five minutes after that flow began and took 9 of its 45 seats. Seven of the nine drove. That one session holds 36 of the 39 seats left empty across the three days. The door began registering walk-ups at 14h17, so none of Friday’s first three sessions had a door guest behind it.
The middle of Friday wanted more than it had. 10h45 took 45 bookings and 30 queue entries, 75 requests for 45 seats. 12h30 recorded 22 in its queue. Leaving out 08h30, Friday booked 223 of 225 seats. Even so, Friday finished furthest below its seats, with 227 drives on 270 (84.1%).
Our read is that Friday’s problem was its first session, not its size, and we would not resize Friday on this data. Across the day, 232 bookings and 86 queue entries make 318 recorded requests for 270 seats. That figure overstates distinct people, because a queue entry is a request. It also understates demand, because the queues were capped from about 10h09. This year’s figures cannot settle either question.
718 consented bookings, handed over on 10 September.
631 of them were booked online and 87 were registered at the door. By day they run 157 on Friday, 261 on Saturday and 300 on Sunday. 619 of the 718 drove. The list is drawn only from guests who held a booking or walked up.
It is not the audience figure, and the two should not be swapped. The audience is 964 drives taken by 928 people. The list counts bookings, so a guest who booked twice appears twice.
Every record on it carries a signed indemnity. All 964 drives were signed for.
619 of the 718 sit against a check-in at the stand, at a named activation, on a known date: Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles, Kyalami, 28 to 30 August 2026. That is the difference between a contact list and a record of 619 bookings that ended in a drive at Kyalami.
12h30 cleared 135 seats in 1 min 37 on Saturday and 195 in 1 min 44 on Sunday. 07h45 filled every one of its 330 seats across the two days. The staged release puts each session on the board on the day it runs, twice a day. Nothing in this data asks for it to change.
Saturday released 135 afternoon seats and added 90 at 13h06, after the first 135 had gone. 45 of the 90 went to guests already in the queues, and the public booked the other 45 by 13:29:58. The seats that came off the queue did least well: 17 of the 48 moved-up guests did not arrive (35.4%), against 16.4% of guests who booked directly. 28 of those 48 were held for a claim at 13h06 and not confirmed until 15h57, and 12 of the 17 no-shows came from that group. Put the afternoon on the board at the size the day can carry, as Sunday did. Sunday released 195 seats at 65 a session and cleared them in 1 min 44.
Nine of the twelve Friday and Saturday sessions had a queue that reached 15, and a queue at 15 is a floor. Sunday had no queue at all, so the record cannot say how many people wanted a Sunday drive beyond the 390 seats it booked. Run a queue on all three days and lift the ceiling, so that 2027 is sized from a fuller count than this year’s floor of 211 entries.
The door put 150 walk-ups into cars against 170 bookings that were never scanned in. On Friday it began registering walk-ups at 14h17, and Friday 08h30 ran with 36 of its 45 seats empty and no door behind it. This year cannot say how many walk-ups a Friday morning would bring. The last session leaked most: the three 18h00 sessions left 59 of 185 bookings unused, and Sunday 18h00 alone lost 25 of 65. Staff the door from the first session on Friday, put the strongest standby on 18h00, and agree in advance how many door guests a session may carry.

1,020 seats by the close, and no booking made before the day it ran. 981 booked, and 964 drives delivered to 928 people. Saturday’s afternoon grew by 90 seats at 13h06. Half went to the queue, and the public took the rest by 13:29:58. Sunday’s afternoon cleared 195 seats in 1 min 44, with no queue behind it to count who missed out.
Volkswagen finished 56 drives short of its seats, and that gap has two addresses. One is Friday 08h30, which ran with 36 seats empty. The other is the 170 bookings that were never scanned in, against which the door put 150 walk-ups into cars. Both sit on the run sheet. Neither needs another car.
The case for 2027 is made of timestamps. The one figure it lacks is how many more wanted in.
